Speaking in Pentacostal

DISCLAIMER

This is by no means a bashing of the church and it's practices. I am a Christian...I believe in Christ and everything he said and the Bible said.

AND

I try my best to follow it in truth and deed.

Whew...that said....I read this over at Jeff's site.(Which is having issues so I can't link it right now) And promptly fell out....died laughing...u know what I mean...snorting and letting out shrieks...grabbed my mouth a few time in awe LOL

I haven't determined what sect Jeff follows....but I know he's a white Pentacostal...and I'm glad I found him....I also found this nice woman...the Happy Helpmeet....check her out....I updated the DJ's List on the side over there....if there is someone who links me and I don't know....holla...I like to read most of those who like to read me....

Speaking Pentacostal (My comments are in red)

church vocabulary guide for those of you who don't speak pentecostal...

Anointing:Used to describe any non-regular emotion (crying in the middle of a song when you forget the words, telling the church off (particularly when its over tithes and offering), doing the Olympic shout around the church (first one that hits the wall gets a white hanky tied around their neck!) ( I won't lie...I have ran around my church a coupla times....shoot it felt good!)

Trick of the Enemy:Used to describe anything that happens because you didn't do what you were supposed to, like your car getting repossessed cause you didn't pay the note, lights getting shut off cause you quit work to go on tour with the pastors choir, or your child repeating the first grade cause he missed the whole second semester to go on a 90 day/90 night fast and consecration. (The Enemy done played some tricks on me )

*Of course, we know there is grace*

Rhema Word:Any message from an out-of-town pastor or evangelist. (Yeah ...I love them)

Prophetic Word:Same message from that out-of-town pastor, delivered 5 decibels louder, while the congregation is standing. Quiet organ music optional, but works better with silence. (Def with the music)

Carnal:Used to describe a saint who goes to the movies. This term doesn't apply if you rent the same movie from Blockbuster. ( I saw a couple from church at the movies and they looked like deer in some headlights....I know they didnt want to see me LOL)

Didn't God Move?:What saints say after a long service where the pastor doesn't preach and they just shout the whole service. (Sholl is right!!! Love that)

Unlock Your Blessing: What preachers say after they've finished preaching, and they say you must give $50 to "unlock your blessing." For a more dramatic effect, this offering can be started at $1,000 and worked down to $25. ( You ain't never lie)

He'll Do It If You Let Him (followed by inaudible tongues): Round one of shouting; will begin in 5 minutes. Organist Get Ready ( I'm getting ready too LOL)

We Got To Move On: What the preacher says when he wants shout time to start up again. Organist, turn up the volume on the Leslie. (HMM)

We Have Time for One More Testimony: Not really, we're just waiting on the pastor to come into service. If you're called on during this one, when you hear clapping, just stop talking, cause the pastor has walked in and people are no longer interested in what God did for you. (I fell out on this one...cause I've seen it happen and I thought the same thing)

We Can Never Pay for the Word: Get your checkbook out, the auction will begin momentarily! This phrase always comes before the offering is taken for the guest speaker. ( They do say that)

God Has Been Dealing with Me on Some Issues: I'm still doing what I was doing before I got saved, only now I just put in an extra $5 in my offering when I do it. (Oh my goodness)

Is He Worthy?: Of course He is; why ask a question like that. (Exactly)

Let Us Go To God in Our Own Way: This is what you say when they ask you to pray in church and you don't know what to say.

Get Ready, Get Ready, Get Ready!!!: Don't really know what this one means, but if you're not careful, a shout could break out when you say it. It must be said three times to have real impact.

I Can't Get No Help: Preachers say this when no one says amen in the spot they thought would get a lot of amens.

I'm Blessed and Highly Favored: Said when a fellow saint asks "how are you?" Memo to saints: you CAN be saved and answer "fine" when someone asks how are you.

Where The Spirit of The Lord is, There is liberty: Whenever you want to disrupt service and holler out when it's quiet, use this statement to justify your behavior.

Get Ready To Go To The Next Level: This means the church will be hosting another revival in a few months.

Stand To Your Feet: This gives the illusion that the preacher is finished, but be prepared to stand up for at least 1/2 hour. May be cut to 15 minutes if the organist starts playing softly.

Give God a Shabach: Scream to the top of your lungs. Some church members may blow whistles and wave flags as well.

Every Head Bowed, Every Eye Closed: Quick! Everyone look around to see who's getting saved again this week.

Secular: Any person, place, object or event that's not in the church.

The "Yes Lord" Song: Signals the official end to shout time. Anyone still shouting when this song is over is considered to be "in self".

In Self: Used to describe someone who acts alone in church. For example, someone who is shouting alone. Add two more people to this display and its called...

In The Spirit
: When three people are doing the same thing in a church service at the same time.

Prayer Partner: Phone buddy. 5 minutes of prayer, 1 hour of church gossiping.
(definitions also apply to COGIC, Charismatic and most anything seen on TBN... not that there's anything wrong with that! ;)

Jeff....man you hit it....I'll be honest...I didn't even know white folks were shouting and speaking in toungues for real...thank you so much for showing me our commonalities...

The Doo-Doo Blocks

I hate dogs....

Yeah I said it....

I hate dogs!

I have a long list of reasons...like how my first dog... a German Shepard named Duke had to be put to sleep when I was 5....I was bitten by a dog in a park when I was 9 and had to get 7 rabies shots...because the Mexican dude that owned him didn't have no papers on the dog...I have more "I hate dogs" stories...

But why I really hate dogs is because of the shit....

henceforth I will be calling it "Doodoo"... Like we used to do back in the day..

It wouldn't be so bad if I didn't live in the ghetto...yet I live in a racially diverse community...where you can turn a corner and pow...you aint in the ghetto no more...So I started paying attention to the outward differences as the twins and I walk the 8 long blocks to their school.......The twins wanted to kick the melting snow...but I had to tell them no because of the hidden treats the dog may have deposited....

The difference is the doo-doo.....White folks and morally responsible blacks pick the doodoo up after their dog takes a crap....big crap ..little crap...it gets deposited in a receptacle and not left on the sidewalk....I have seen folks wait patiently for little Edgar to drop a load so they can scoop it right on up....

And that's cool...If you like that sort of thing...I don't...that's why I have a cat...so I can scoop that doodoo right up out the litter box...and send the kids out the back door to drop it in the garbage...granted I hate cleaning the litter box out...but it's better than having to wash a dog...Tyrone keeps his own ass clean...

But on my block and all the ghetto blocks that I pass through...There's doodoo everywhere!

And not little toy poodle doodoo either...we talking huge amounts from rotweilers and pitbulls...every other step you have to watch for what you may track in the house...It's just crazy! I see my neighbors every morning and they wave hi as they walking those monsters....I wave back...but in my mind I'm screaming:

"Pick that DOODOO up you nasty bastard! "

Sometimes...it aint the white man...it's us...

I woulda put a picture of some doodoo...but I saw enough this morning!

Enjoy your weekend...Ima work on Part 2 of the Blogger Spolight...and add some new friends to the DJ List....

Wanna Chat?

man...American Idol had me on the floor this morning....

"BrokeNote Mountain"? What was the black dude thinking?...what a fool

"Honey Dip from Mt. Vernon"...She's one to watch tonight...It would nice to see her go far.

"The Hissy Fit Twins"...First of all I thought they looked like 2 versions of David Banner with a lot of sugar in his tank.....I wonder if they were raised in church....I might have to investigate them...but I'll tell you this I know they was cause they come from one of my hometowns...Memphis...COGIC all day everyday......It was funny watching them go at it with Simon

It was all hyped up drama though...I know it's fake and the young shawty who sings like Billie Holiday/Sarah Vaughn...will probably sweep it...we'll see...I'll keep you posted...

I taped last night's episode and I planned to watch it after church...but I had a little chat first that put me to sleep...S23...I might have to dodge a heel like Ladylee for leaving you hanging...And were was Ms Lee on Valentine's Night HUH????????????

But last night I got one of the most honest opinions of my life..."you are totally biased"....Man that is so true...I have my opinions and dang if I don't put the horns up.....

But this leads me to the subject of chatting....and chat etiquette...

I will have to admit I am a little lax in this....I don't chat online with very many people...and the ones I do chat with have to deal with my coo-kie ways...I know it's annoying yall because I tend to

1. Not proofread
2. Go off on tangents
3. type for hours and then erase my statements LOL
4. Walk away and not say nothing
5. juggle the twins...the phone ...the cat...while quoting a Bible scripture
6. Fall asleep in the middle of a convo (Mommy's a narcoleptic...always sleeping on HOV) Sorry flashback

Whatever!

If you have been found worthy enough to chat with me.....Deal with it!...Sorry...must be the horns coming out...as we get closer and closer to Aries....more of my crazy traits will become more pronounced...a lot more arrogance, stubborness, bluntness....You know the whole Aries Ram thing....

Consider yourself warned.....

But something else I want to talk about is Proverbs 31....I keep shouting it out and I decided to tell you want I have discovered....I also want to chart my progess to see if I can emulate it...or maybe I'm already doing it...So I'm going to do 5 verses today...and see how it goes...and for Ladylee's pleasure I am using the New Living Translation...I prefer the King James 16th century one...but she hates the thee's and thou's...if you aint interested you can stop here cause it's the

BIBLE STUDY

Proverbs 31 Verses 10-14

10 Who can find a virtuous and capable wife? She is worth more than precious rubies.
well...I can say that I am capable...virtuous? I am working on that.....staying celibate this time doesn't feel so hard...and after X months exactly today? I don't miss it...I just hope I stay strong...Who am I kidding...I know I can! And I am certainly worth more than some stones...

11Her husband can trust her, and she will greatly enrich his life.
Trust...hmmm... I can finally say that at this point I can be trusted...cause I aint doing nothing LOL...Seriously....I am finally over the "keep on holding out till something better comes"....my husband should be the final piece in the puzzle...so casual affairs are completely done for me.

Will I enrich his life? Hmmmm Uh yeah...I have great earning potential at this point...with my degree and plans for higher education ...and by this time next year debt free with good money in the bank...I am in the process of updating my furniture...the only room left is my bedroom and getting a 50"+ television (Man in Motion quote)...So I have my shit together....and he better have his together too...

12She will not hinder him but help him all her life.
I won't be standing in nobody's way of progression...wanna go back to school to make more money? Go! Wanna work more hours to make more money? GO! You want to pursue a dream to uplift your spirits? GO! Just make sure your bill money stays here...Nah I'm kidding...but I really think that helping each other achieve more out of life is essential to a relationship...

13She finds wool and flax and busily spins it.
Well this is a no brainer...I stay Crocheting and Knitting...every chance I get...So I guess I have this one down pat!

14She is like a merchant's ship; she brings her food from afar.
again...already doing it....i will travel for the right meats...the right sales...I love to food shop...C used to tease me about the time I used to spend in Shop Rite...comparison shoppping...I will calculate ozs vs price all day LOL...and I'm teaching the twins the same values..

So looks like I'm on track...let's see with the next 5....

What beautiful gifts...Happy V Day

Well Happy Day to ya!

I hope yours is/was good as mine...

I awoke up from a wonderful dream (detailed in that other place)....to my beautiful firstborn twin shaking me saying "Mommy wake up, look what I got you for Valentine's day"....A beautiful red and silver necklace with hearts....Oh it was just darling! I tried to go back to finish that dream...but it was a wrap...sigh....then the baby twin came over and said "Mommy here's your gift!" A pretty silver necklace with a heart and earrings to match...

But My babies really did hold my presents to themselves in the last few occasions...like for Christmas they got me some really nice bracelets...It's soo funny to me...why?

It's the twin thing they got going...At the school they have a little booth like when there's a holiday and the kids can buy stuff for their parents....and since the twins are in different classes...they shop at different times...but they always end up getting me something similar LMBO...It's sooooooo cute....

But I'll tell you this....they have good taste in what they buy for me...and they remember my favorite colors and styles...It's better than having a boyfriend to be honest...they always want the best for me and remember all the special days LOL...well yall kow I'm stretching that one LOL...I do want to get married again...maybe in my 40's when they have left the house LOL

NOT!!!

Anyway...I wanted to wish you all a happy V day...I'm going to get my hair done since the bad snowstorm is finally over...I have to look pretty...cause I'm taking my 2 most favorite people in the whole world out to dinner at their favorite restaurant and then we going to church for Youth night....where I'll be enjoying the Prayer while they enjoy coloring in the new Bible coloring books I bought them....

Things aren't what they seem/Parte Deux

Remember Terrell Pough? I felt so bad when he died...A celebrated teen father profiled in People magazine...They found out what happened to him...I decided to post the whole article...I'm a little upset now...Like did People not investigate him?....Wanna discuss?

AP State News

Honored young father killed over drugs, police say

An 18-year-old once honored as an exemplary student and single father was gunned down over a drug debt, authorities said.

The motive for Terrell Pough's murder had been unclear until Tuesday, when prosecutors at a preliminary hearing revealed an entirely different image of the celebrated teen: a drug dealer who was killed after failing to pay for 4.5 ounces of crack cocaine.

Pough had been profiled in People magazine last summer as an outstanding teenage father raising his baby daughter. He was shot once in the back of the head Nov. 17 as he returned home from working at a fast-food restaurant.

The man accused of pulling the trigger, Antoine Riggins, 20, said in a statement to police that he borrowed a gun from Raul Rosario, 18, after Pough went about two weeks without paying for the drugs.

Riggins said he had been given an ultimatum by his supplier: "You either get (Pough) or get his money _ or I get you."

"I told Terrell that the guy I got it from don't play no games," Riggins said in his statement, which was read aloud in court.

Pough's mother, Elizabeth, was removed from the hearing after screaming and cursing at Riggins and Rosario, both of whom were charged in the slaying.

"It's a lie. It's a lie," Elizabeth Pough said. "He was not involved in drugs."

But authorities seemed convinced of the motive.

"A lot of people don't sell drugs out in the open, and you're always going to be on your best behavior in front of your family, your church, your teachers," Assistant District Attorney Carmen Lineberger said after the hearing. "I'm sure this came as a surprise to a lot of people."

The magazine article in August brought Pough national attention and support that included donations for rent and a car to get to work. The Philadelphia 76ers honored Pough and his 2-year-old daughter, Diamond, at a game; the team later paid for a public memorial service for Pough.

More than 200 attended a service for Pough at Temple University.

Grammy's 2006/ PBS

I couldn't help myself...

20 (some odd bits) on the Grammy 2006

1. Man I told yall about Gorilla Inc. way back when…when I used to see the video I used to say to myself…”Dat look like Tru Goy” I was De la Soul right!

2. Madonna is off the hook. I love her crazy 40’s purple leotard wearing behind. Those stockings look like they hurt…Were they like a French coffee color? Remember when u used to wear French coffee stockings? Are leotards coming back? I hope not…Those were the original thongs…

3. I am happy for Kelly Clarkson. I think she really does deserve those Grammys.

4. Now Alicia Keys is so naked Stevie Wonder can see her…That joke was funny…

5. Why am I reminded of AD’s little chest hair after seeing Kanye with his shirt open. I am looking forward to the Jamie Foxx duet now.

6. Does anyone really watch the Grammy’s for the country music portion?

7. Don’t they have like 20 country music award shows?

8. I have had enough of Mariah…First of all the dress is old news…C had that same outfit in like 3 colors 8 years ago! She wore the black one to my aunt’s wedding LOL

9. Why is Mariah singing about Jesus looking like Jezebel?

10. Why was I happy to see her extensions puff out like the rest of us weave wearers?

11. The choir behind her was not singing…that was a prerecorded track..so all of the theatrics by the choir director was unnecessary…

12. Having a choir sing behind you does not make you believable…look at R. Kelly…he would probably have a choir behind him in “Trapped in the closet”…Wait…somebody gotta be praying for they behind…

13. I’m done with John Legend…La.la.la.la.la la…I used to..... love him…

14. Ciara looks like a Robert Palmer video girl…and all that booty shaking did not get my husband Adam Levine’s attention…he didn’t look her way once.she had to keep those thighs tight right?

15. Who the heck did her styling? My ponytails used to look better than that thing…

16. I am too done with Will I Am

17. Sly Stone scared the hell out of me when he came out…His blond Mohawk was so heavy he couldn’t hold up his head!

18. I died laughing when he left the stage before the end of the song and had all the performers on stage looking for him…WOOOO that was funny…Like where he go? With all that aluminum foil on…I’m surprised somebody didn’t get shocked(Steve Harvey, Kings of Comedy)…

19. Does Steven Tyler personally tie the scarves on his mic stands…does he pick them out for a particular reason…or is that just supposed to be cool?

20. Why am I not impressed by Jay-Z anymore?

21. Was I supposed to be impressed that he was rapping with Paul McCartney? They should have left him out of that tribute to John Lennon…Jay-Z sounded horrible..Some fusion is just not meant to be!

22. When is Jamie Foxx coming on????

23. Why is it that Michelle always has the worst hair and dress…gold lame? She looked stressed out…

24. Watching the folks grab their ears when the marching band started was a trip….I died laughing..guess they didn’t factor that in? LOL

25. Kanye West in a lavender suit with Mickey Mouse gloves on

26. Ok I’m done with this boring blankety blank Grammy Award Show 2006!…

So I caught this program that I Tivo’d. I tape all Frontline programs. This one about the Russian/Turkish sex trade was very eye opening.

PBS/ or as I call it channel 13…sometimes has the power to amaze me with the depth of documentaries that they have…I recently watched this one…”This Far By Faith, Part One” about 3 times last weekend…

Episode 1: Guide My Feet

It travels back in time to examine Africans' initial encounter with Christianity, and tells the story of Denmark Vesey, who used bilblical scripture to justify a violent slave rebellion in 1822. Vesey worked with support from the African Methodist Episcopal Church (AME). We then tell the story of Sojourner Truth - born, enslaved, as Isabella Baumfree. She drew upon a highly individualized faith to challenge the system of slavery. Her spiritual strength led her to become a national figure in the abolitionist and feminist movements. These twin tributaries of righteous engagement and righteous retribution flow through African-American religious life.

Then I watched Episode 2 : God Is a Negro

After Emancipation, minister-turned-journalist Henry McNeal Turner used his faith in the will of Providence and the power of the black church to encourage political participation in the south. Turner, a popular preacher even before the Civil War, became the Union Army's first black chaplain once President Lincoln mustered black regiments. After the war, Turner, helped organize the Georgia Republican Party. Elected a state representative, but never allowed to serve, Turner's emphasis on black nationalism gradually alienated him from mainstream leaders but made him popular among the masses. Outside of politics, he and other church leaders put their efforts into church organizations. Grammar schools and universities, banks and insurance companies, printing presses, nursing homes and hospitals are all examples of institutions founded and maintained by black religious communities denied access by the society at large. Henry McNeal turner eventually became a bishop in the African Methodist Episcopal Church. His philosophy and teachings encouraged followers to find God from within, thereby raising their opinions about themselves and the black race.

If you can catch it you should…very informative about the spread of Christianity amongst the slaves and the higher level it was elevated to… If you can't catch it...

make sure you watch Part 3: Guide My Feet

Guide My Feet is also the story of Cecil Williams and Thomas A. Dorsey, two men a generation apart, both Southern migrants, united by a vision to take the stark reality of the streets into the church, challenging Christianity to be true to its promise of acceptance. In the black community of Chicago, Thomas Dorsey, a pianist with blues singer Ma Rainey, pioneers a different direction for spiritual expression: gospel music. In San Francisco, the Reverend Cecil Williams strives to pull down barriers with his "come as you are" church. Through their great efforts, Dorsey, Williams, and others create a new faith and a new music.

Happy 73rd Birthday Grandma

Today is my Grandma's birthday!!!!!!

I have so much respect for this woman. Grandma CleanSpirit is a living testimony to God's goodness. She had 6 daughters and 1 son. She has 75 grand and great grand children.

I am the only one who holds her first name as my own. The twins said they will keep the name alive LOL

75 descendants. The last Great granchild named Illyana was born 2 months ago...and most of us Grandchildren are in childbearing age....I had some first cousins over to spend the weekend with me...Cheryl and Alexandria...12 and 13...how do I in my 30's have first cousins as young as 8? Yeesh...My Aunts thankfully are finished...I think...

Grandma is rich...She downplays it...but she's a multimillionare...and she stays that way by holding on to those purse straps LOL but you can hit her for some dough now and then...She has traveled all over the world. Last year it was Africa...before that an Asia tour...before that she did the Christian tour from Egypt to Israel...I could kick myself for not traveling to all these trips with her...But please pray for me that I will be able to honor my promise to go with her to Greece this year...I have so much I could show her...Man...

She owns 14 homes in her hometown...drives Mercedes...lives in a mansion...the twins call it "The Big Red House"...they will be staying with her for 2 weeks out of the summer....I'm gonna see Grandma over the Memorial Day weekend at our denomination's Women's day conference...Should be interesting...

I talk to Grandma every day or every other...and I listen to her tell me the same story over and over...Must be where I get it from...but sometimes she tells me something new that knocks me out...

Saturday she told me of her past...How growing up her parents had a two room house....2 rooms...a bedroom and livingroom/kitchen...bathroom outside...little Grandma slept in a room with her 3 sisters and a brother.....she died laughing when she told me:

"Den Momma upped and had another baby...All of us in that house and here she go having another baby...but she never complained to Daddy about not having no room...she never said a word to him about building another room on the house...Momma pasted a picture of a little 4 room house on the wall with a yard...And she used to stand in front of that picture every morning...then she pasted some little black kids in the yard...and she stood in front of that picture everyday...and she was mumbling something...I know now she was praying...she never said a word to Daddy...well some land came up for sale and Daddy bought it...it was like $100 an care and he bought like 5 or 6...and there was a house on it just like the one Momma had on the wall...I know she was praying for it...and it came true..."

When I heard this story I heard the testimony of prayer....but then I looked how much the Lord brought my own grandmother from..She lives in a 6 bedroom mini mansion...with a little gameroom house built in the backyard with a trampoline and pool for the kids...I told her that her own mother would have fainted at the sight of her house...

Grandma just chuckled and said "Well the Lord is good"

She right...He really is...I am so thankful that I have had her so long in my life...and that my children get to know her and say "Happy Birthday Great Grandma" on a day like today....

Am I'm proud that she can feel good about having someone in church with her...even in a separate place...who will call to pray with her...and discuss church affairs...I was promoted Saturday to Correspondence Secretary of the Womens Department at church and I didn't even know that they had even nominated me...I also joined the Sewing/Artistic Fingers Circle...I can't wait to work with the Seniors...They are the ones who have the most to offer...yet the help in that department is lacking...Lastly I have a prayer in to God that I get a really nice car when I purchase one in about a month...because the Church Mother needs a helper...I mean she is the Senior Woman offical...so why shouldn't she be lifted up?...I Love her to death...She gets around fine on her own...but I think that she deserves to be driven around in nice car whenever possible...so I mentioned it to her Sunday ...and she was delighted...So I have faith the Lord will send me a reliable car to get her back and forth...

I'ma just end this by saying...Happy Birthday Grandma...I Love You

Out of Touch/ 20 Bits

"You're out touch
I'm out of mind
Going out of my head when you're not around" - Hall & Oates

Since the accident I have been schelpping around on mass transit.

Oh My GOD!

I don't do Public transportation. Or at least I didn't since I moved here to the neighboring county, outside of New York City. 3 1/2 years ago.

In that time I had become really, really spoiled. I was always warm. Played my music on high at all times. Sang and danced in my driver's seat. Heck I used to drive barefoot cause I was so comfortable in my car. Whose pics I am going to post this weekend...You have to see that crash to believe it was a miracle...

But I had been so abosrbed with my little body armor/flying machine.

But taking cabs to buses to various trains....My God.

Last night I took 2 cabs and 2 trains to get to church...I was late..but so happy I got there in time to see the visiting Evangelist sing with a bass guitar and teach a reviving message...We danced last night yall...ALL over the place... got my 2 step going too...LOL

I learned some things on public transportation...
