Show me Yours Mutherf&!%*@!!!!

So how do I bring out the me nobody sees
The forest for the trees, how ’bout the woman behind the weave
The light from within this life is the only real remedy
Or find the reflection you see to be so damn unpretty

How it used to be

I thought about a quote to use to start off the blog I have been rehashing in my brain all week. I did the NESS DIGI show on WHCR 90.3FM this week and I have been trying pull myself back together since. DJ Diva’s going into the studio without a nap means that she was up for a total of 28 hours. Wow…So you know I must love it right?

This week’s show contained some new music along with two very interesting discussions. One topic was Porno Rap. Has HipHop pushed the envelope too far with combining sex with the music? You would have to be an idiot not to see how the industry is promoting the rap/sex marriage. However, as discussed in last week’s show, the females in the industry have had to conform to those stereotypes presented in the male rap songs and videos. When I thought long and hard about it, I decided that I couldn’t make such a statement without evidence. I decided to track the subject through visual progression to illustrate my point. I chose Salt and Pepa. In the area of female rap, I would say that they had the longest history in the game and although their careers are pretty much done (as 40 year old females in the rap game?), and with 7 albums, Queen Latifah might the only other female rapper who has surpassed them in terms of actual albums produced. Point being? I chose Salt and Pepa to show the progression of the effect that the introduction of sex into HipHop has impacted the image of female rappers. And this is what I found:

How it used to be

We have the pic that you started with above. The mid 80’s was a strange time of acid wash and high white socks. You wouldn’t dare show any cleavage. Your momma would murder you. Then came Lycra!

Lycra was very risqué

My mother lost her mind when I bought a pair of biker shorts. “You got your whole ass hanging out! People can see every nook and cranny!” I would wear a big t-shirt and as soon as I got outside…tuck that bad boy in!

Bra tops, short skirts, long boots....exposing more

Skin was shown. A little flash here and there. Mom made sure I wore shorts underneath. I really dug this look.

Dammit....let it all hang out

At the end of their careers, they must show it all to even be noticed. They look good though! it's just too much...

Ok Ok…it ain’t all HipHop’s fault…but when faced the progression…it does seem strange that it happened so quickly within 15 years. Sure, sure it was SNP’s choice to bare all…and they didn’t have to do it. Or did they? I don’t how you feel, but to me? Remy Martin looks like Magilla Gorilla. Put a weave on her and some pumpum shorts and she’s finally good enough to be in a video. KIM, EVE, and FOXY came along during the 90’s when sex was really taking hold on the rap psyche and although it was acceptable to be half naked, we all said Diana Ross was right when she flipped KIM’s titty. Shouldn’t have been out in the first place! Same to you Janet!

So how come exposing body parts haven’t applied to the man side? Heaven Forbid. These nuccas is hardcore and they aint gonna be showing stuff. You know what I’d like to see? More of these male rappers with their ish hanging out. Maybe that why I love 50 Cent.

All I want is a Lil Bit

I can believe that a lot of women wanna do him...on the other hand...the rest of yall? I can't believe the hype you guys are pushing.

I mean it was certainly Eyecandy to see him doing sit-ups. More men need to try it. Hold them accountable for the fact that we are constantly exposed to their desires and fantasies, which they so eagerly display. I WANT RECIPROCITY!!! (Didn’t Lauren Hill say that?) It ain’t fair that I don’t get to see what you have, but you can blast my body parts all over the airwaves.

We do get to see a lot of Nelly..

I ain't got no milk...but I would sure pump some!

Nelly may not be accepted by the "legitimate" rap community...but given the fact he makes overly sexual least he shows his body as well...

My challenge to these egotistical and chauvinistically charged rap artists: Put up or shut up! If you feel like you just that fly and I should believe that these half naked women fawning all over you in a video are true representations of what's going on in your real life, help me to believe that by showing me what you got! Cause according to majority of the reports…you guys ain’t got that much money due to the Faustian deals you sign with these cutthroat labels, most of you guys don’t have the looks, and intelligent conversations would definitely be lacking since most of you can only speak in rhymes! Must be the body.. or the package...

So show me Mutherf&%#^! Show Me!

Now all you sucker MC’s
Who think you’re fly
There’s got to be a reason
And we know the reason why.
You try to put on these airs
and act real cool
but you've got to realize
that you're acting like fools

Dang, I went on a rant didn’t I?

I gotta go...according to the twins "MADAGASCAR is playing everywhere" and they can't miss it! I'll hit you back with the actual transcript of the radio show.

So my crazy butt stayed up again...I really meant to get some sleep...before the 3 am-6am show...but I had a final in Advanced no sleep for me!

Next week I will actually be in the studio instead of on the i hope yall listen

But here's a nice run down of what you missed and please feel free to comment on any topic you want to be heard on!

The NESS DIGI show. A radio program on WCHR 90.3, "The Voice of Harlem", where NESS DIGI, JAM-1, SKITS, Kwa-Zo and DJ DIVA (yeah, me!)discuss hip-hop related topics. Every week there are special guests. This weeks special guest was Smooth Mo, Managing Editor of "The Paper".

What a "I found his Black Assssss!" shot

Tonight's show began with a discussion about po' Dave Chappelle. But we have rehashed that to death..haven't we? But we can't stop talking about it. His DVDs are the highest selling this year...and I want more skits like the old black man who was a white supremacist. I truly believe that it's the black comedian's curse. Redd Foxx (taxes), Richard Pryor (drugs & fire), Eddie Murphy (transvestite), Martin Lawrence (running around in hot weather with an aluminum foil suit on). All of these guys seem to self-destruct and exhibit a type of hamartia. (vocabulary word-click for meaning) However, it can also be said that the black comedian can bounce back: all of the above comedians are also proof of this. But back to Dave? We are all waiting on tenterhooks for his return.

Pump or Dump List

1. Common ft. Kanye West/John Meyer "Go"- seen as a jump to the other end of the Spectrum. All on the panel unanimously pumped the song. The lyrics are tepid but the beat is hot and it is a "feel good" song. Mass appeal expected. I really enjoyed the fact that John Meyer is featured on the song. I spoke about him months ago. The song was Pumped.
2. Akon "Lonely" -Dumped-no further explanation needed. Chop Suey.
3. Mariah Carey "" NESS said that was 17 songs rolled into one..the song self-destructed and I didn't even catch the name of the song. It was bad. One of the worst cuts..I'll get the name.. No matter what, Jam 1 always humps (I mean) pumps Mariah. LOL.

Station discussion: Britney Spears' Chaotic
DJ DIVA's Commentary on Air

Britney's pitiful attempt to try and stay in the limelight. Andy Warhol said that we only get 15 minutes in the spotlight, and apparently Britney lost her watch.
TMI TMI TMI...we are really receiving too too much information about the period of time where she plotted and stole Shar Jackson's man. It was truly hard to find a reason to like her entertainment method. She is not the greatest singer, her dancing is what makes her an entertainer?

NESS said " We got to see her untalented self on channel 9 with no make-up and receiving hair extensions..She's a performer who can't sing or dance."

SKITS "her rise to fame came about because her clothing started to disappear."

NESS and SKITS got into a heated discussion about the comparison of Britney Spears vs. P.Diddy as entertainers or performers

MO "she has some degree of talent, however small, and this appeals to those consumers who like her music."

JaRule ft. Mary J Blige "These Streets Done Raised Me" - BORING...we are finally so over Ja Rule at this point.

Nighty night

Dave Chappelle Retreats

Dave Floating High

Sorry, the weekend is over. I actually spent it at the home stewing in my creative juices. I also worked on a new cd. The theme is “Crush”. Butterflies…Smiles for no reason…Chest tightening…Juices flowing..The playlist is below. Now on to the main reason for the post.

So Dave Chappelle is ok!
Comedian Dave Chappelle wants to set things straight: "I'm not crazy, I'm not smoking crack,"

Well thank God!
"I'm definitely stressed out," said Chappelle, who took off last month to South Africa for a "spiritual retreat," leaving his fans — and even his agent and publicist — wondering where he went.
What was he stressed out about?
"There's a lot of resistance to my opinions, so I decided, 'Let me remove myself from this situation,'" Chappelle said.
Comedy Central president Doug Herzog told Time that the star has "complete creative freedom." He has told staff he believes there won't be a "Chappelle's Show" in 2005, but leaves the option open for the comedian's return.

Well hopefully he’ll return to us.

Amerikka's Most Wanted

Assata Shakur

With the schools in Paterson, N.J. falling down, with areas of Newark looking like a disaster area, with the crack epidemic, with the wide-spread poverty and unemployment in New Jersey, these depraved, decadent, would-be slave-masters want federal funds to help put this "nigger wench" back in her place. They call me the "most wanted woman" in Amerika. I find that ironic. I've never felt very "wanted" before. When it came to jobs, I was never the "most wanted," when it came to "economic opportunities I was never the "most wanted, when it came to decent housing." It seems like the only time Black people are on the "most wanted" list is when they want to put us in prison.

They raised the bounty on her head to 1 million dollars.

Pumps and a Dump

Divas Unite!!!

Carmella (seen above as Conchita from Memphis) wanted a blog piece about the radio show on 90.3FM.

I stay up all Wednesday night from 3-6am. Why? What else I have to do?

Nah.. Seriously though, it’s an interesting show where NESS DIGI, Skizzle and Jam 1 play new joints, critique the songs and break down beats. I call in and give my opinion. I’m usually the only female but I tend to agree with my boys… Conversations from the paper office usually spill onto the show…so it can at times seem like an ongoing conversation we may have had at lunch.

He opened with Common’s “The Light”…which took me back for a min…

Critiqued songs

The Game ft Mary “Like it or Love it” Remix (my comment- Nice to hear real hip hop from Mary on that beat…that song should have been hers from jump)

Amerie “Not the only one” somehow the conversation turned to her in pumpum shorts..nevertheless the song was dumped by all on the panel..

Brooke Valentine “Girlfight” – (my opinion) Song absolutely suited for the male fantasy side: they stopped the song midway. Dumped. NESS said “If anybody in here likes that song just leave now…All trash”

Jaheim and Jadakiss “Everytime” DUMPED

Keyshia Coles ft Alicia Keyes – “I Just Want It To Be Over” Pumped

Faith Evans ft Ghostface– “Again” remix Pumped

Then I got tired…and had to call it a night.

Snoop Dogg to talk about weed at Oxford University

damn that's a long one

Snoop Dogg is supposed to give a talk on the harmful effects of drugs at Oxford University.

U stopped laughing yet?

Let me give u a moment to compose yourself and then read the quote:

The long time chronic smoker is set to speak to Oxford students' about dangers of drugs. According to Oxford insiders, the Doggfather won't be on hand to glorify drug use. Instead, the lanky rapper will spark a debate on the consequences of drug use. Snoop is following in the footsteps of Michael Jackson; the Gloved One once treated Oxford students to a speech about family and love.

I love Snoop to death...but he can't be serious.

I now wonder about the credibility of Oxford...

Clinton went there and didn't inhale...

Snoop definitely does

Ok...U can start laughing again...Cause it's ludacris

They need to legalize it already!
